July Camp: Highlights from Day 4

AM Session ~ Creative Writing

 

This morning we’re going to begin our report with the highlights from our campers:

 

    • Giving feedback to others is very good
    • I was very happy to receive feedback from friends
    • I liked presenting my writing
    • I think the feedback was helpful
    • I was glad to share my story with others
    • Listening to others stories is really fun

 

After a couple of warm up writing prompts, today’s session was all about editing, revising, sharing, and giving feedback to our friends! It was so nice to have the opportunity to share what we’ve been working on this week, and get ideas from each of our classmates on how to push our writing even further. We have VERY talented authors in this class, and we’re looking forward to finalizing one selection of writing tomorrow morning to present in our writing gallery!

 

PM Session ~ Design Thinking

 

This afternoon we took some time to connect the 5-step design process to:

  1. a)   everything we’ve done so far this week in the afternoon design thinking sessions,
  2. b)   everything we’ve done so far this week in the morning creative writing sessions, and
  3. c)   any future job we might have one day.

 

Many of the students found this interesting!

 

We also used yesterday’s feedback to iterate (change/redesign) our team products for Gary’s sweet tooth problem, and at the end of the afternoon, we discussed how an entrepreneur might pitch a product to a potential investor.

The campers’ highlights from this afternoon:

  • We learned how people use the design thinking process in their jobs.
  • Today we used other people’s feedback to change our products from yesterday.
  • We learned about “elevator pitches” for products.
  • We saw the Shark Tank video.
  • We learned that most jobs use the design process.
  • Almost all of the jobs out there use discovery, interpretation, ideation, experimentation, and evolution.
  • I liked our ideas and the vegetable video (starring Mr. Ethan).

Homework for Friday:
